Pre-feasibility studies for offshore wind energy sites in our country, particularly in the South Marmara Region, have been completed. Click here to access the pre-feasibility study.
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has decided to designate four offshore wind energy sites in Bandırma, Bozcaada, Gelibolu, and Karabiga as candidate Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) under the Renewable Energy Resource Areas Regulation. The Ministry announced a consultancy service tender on July 28, 2023, to conduct environmental, social, and biodiversity analyses for offshore wind energy plants (WPPs) as part of Phase IV of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) Energy Sector Program. Consequently, new investments in the offshore wind sector are expected to come to the region in the near future.
As seen in examples from Europe, the integration of offshore wind power plants and green hydrogen production offers various opportunities for Türkiye. In line with the country's decarbonization goals, new investment efforts in the green hydrogen field are ongoing. This center aims to provide training for personnel or candidates to work in offshore wind power plants, hydrogen facilities, and related projects. The goal is to localize the training center for the offshore wind energy and hydrogen energy sectors and to establish an international training center that also serves neighboring countries.
The center's activities will not be only limited to training, but will also encompass R&D and testing efforts. The main service building of the center will be located at the Marine Science Center of Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University; some hydrogen-related units are planned to be established at Enerjisa Üretim’s Bandırma Energy Base as part of this initiative.
