The installation of Türkiye's first domestic green hydrogen facility will be completed by using the country's highest-capacity electrolyzer, with a minimum capacity of 5 Nm3/h. The electrolyzer technology will be of the PEM type. The system will produce 2 Nm3/h of green hydrogen, which will be sent to the Natural Gas Power Plant at the Bandırma Energy Hub to be used for cooling the generators, serving as a model application for the industry.
An additional production capacity of 3 Nm3/h will be utilized in the next phase for pilot production of hydrogen derivatives such as green methanol and green ammonia, as well as solid hydrogen storage compounds like boron-hydrogen compounds.
In line with the protocol signed on February 15, 2022, the development process of the domestic hydrogen plant is being carried out under the responsibility of TÜBİTAK MAM. Eti Maden and Enerjisa Üretim, major producers ranking in the top 50 of ISO500, anticipate hydrogen to be a crucial tool in reducing carbon emissions resulting from their processes and preparing themselves for the new trade system under the European Green Deal. In this regard, they will contribute to the development of domestic capacity by co-financing the Turkish industry's first domestic green hydrogen pilot plant, which is the main activity of this guided project.
