South Marmara Development Agency and Trakia University-Stara Zagora Collaborate on Hydrogen Valley Projects
In a significant move towards a hydrogen-driven future in Europe, the South Marmara Development Agency and Trakia University-Stara Zagora, the coordinators of Türkiye’s and Bulgaria’s first H₂ Valleys, have united under the HYSouthMarmara initiative. This collaboration brings together two major projects supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership: HYSouthMarmara in Türkiye and ZAHYR in Bulgaria.
HYSouthMarmara Project: A pioneering initiative dedicated to developing a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem in the South Marmara region. With an impressive €8 million in EU funding out of a total €38 million budget, a consortium of 15 partners is driving forward this ambitious project, laying the groundwork for hydrogen innovation in Türkiye.
ZAHYR Project: Located in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, it focuses on demonstrating hydrogen’s potential in transport applications. With the aim of reducing CO₂ emissions, this project is set to create a hydrogen-based economy, making a positive impact both locally and beyond.
Recent discussions between the HYSouthMarmara and ZAHYR teams have yielded fruitful exchanges of knowledge and ideas, uncovering synergies that could significantly strengthen the hydrogen economy across both regions and Europe. This collaboration highlights the growing momentum for hydrogen technologies and their role in achieving a sustainable energy future.
