About Us / HYSouthMarmara Project
...

The HYSouthMarmara Project aims to support the development of a regional green hydrogen economy. By integrating green hydrogen production from renewable sources and demonstrating end-user applications, the project seeks to replace natural gas or gray hydrogen with green hydrogen in energy-intensive industries such as ceramics, chemicals, and glass production. The HYSouthMarmara Project utilizes an electrolyzer with a minimum capacity of 4 MW to produce 500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

South Marmara is a pioneering region in green electricity generation in Türkiye through renewable technologies. Under the HYSouthMarmara Project, solar and wind power plants in the region will be integrated for green hydrogen production via water electrolysis. The produced green hydrogen will be stored as high-pressure gas in tube trailers and transported to end users. Once green hydrogen production commences, it will be used as an alternative energy carrier, feedstock, and reducing agent in the energy-intensive chemical, glass, and ceramics industries.

The HYSouthMarmara Project will utilize the green hydrogen produced in four distinct applications:

Float Glass Green hydrogen will serve as a direct input/replacement for gray hydrogen.
Hydrogen Peroxide Green hydrogen will be used as a direct input/replacement for gray hydrogen.
Ceramics In the ceramic tile industry, green hydrogen will replace natural gas in energy-intensive fast-firing processes.
Sodium Borohydride Sodium borohydride will be used for solid-state storage, and a sodium borohydride-based power source will be developed.

The ultimate goal of the project is to establish a green hydrogen value chain by supplying green hydrogen to various sectors in the region. The overarching global objective of the HYSouthMarmara Project is to create a green hydrogen ecosystem in South Marmara, enabling the region to become Türkiye’s first carbon-neutral region.
