The HYSouthMarmara Project aims to support the development of a regional green hydrogen economy. By integrating green hydrogen production from renewable sources and demonstrating end-user applications, the project seeks to replace natural gas or gray hydrogen with green hydrogen in energy-intensive industries such as ceramics, chemicals, and glass production. The HYSouthMarmara Project utilizes an electrolyzer with a minimum capacity of 4 MW to produce 500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
South Marmara is a pioneering region in green electricity generation in Türkiye through renewable technologies. Under the HYSouthMarmara Project, solar and wind power plants in the region will be integrated for green hydrogen production via water electrolysis. The produced green hydrogen will be stored as high-pressure gas in tube trailers and transported to end users. Once green hydrogen production commences, it will be used as an alternative energy carrier, feedstock, and reducing agent in the energy-intensive chemical, glass, and ceramics industries.
The ultimate goal of the project is to establish a green hydrogen value chain by supplying green hydrogen to various sectors in the region. The overarching global objective of the HYSouthMarmara Project is to create a green hydrogen ecosystem in South Marmara, enabling the region to become Türkiye’s first carbon-neutral region.
