South Marmara: The Leading Region in Turkiye's Renewable Energy Installed Capacity
...

South Marmara, the leading region in Turkiye's renewable energy installed capacity,

is preparing to host Türkiye’s first offshore wind farms and the first Hydrogen Valley. The region will soon complement its onshore renewable energy capacity with its offshore potential, contributing significantly to Turkiye's green energy goals.

This will position the region as a key player in both domestic consumption and the export of green fuels to European countries. The advantages of its 1,000 km coastline and strategic islands should be fully leveraged during the green transition process. Additionally, the region is progressing towards becoming a hub for renewable energy technologies and education.

In this context, training centers focused on onshore wind, solar, and biogas have been established with fully equipped laboratories at Balıkesir University and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Additionally, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, the third university in the region, will host a "Green Sea Industry R&D Test and Training Center" specializing in offshore renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.
